We guess they want to improve the safety of their buses and shuttles passengers since the “load” is so precious, but constraints stop them from buying.
Their bus drivers must have experienced LED headlighting, probably on their own personal vehicles or just watching commercial trucks that use them plenty, and wonder why they can’t enjoy their comfort.
We may know the reason.
We have learned that their DOT inspections are tight and require DOT-marked headlight bulbs, and DOT-marked LED headlight bulbs simply don’t exist.
However, LED headlight bulbs have long ago outperformed halogen and HID ones. They improve frontal vision and, thus, safety, and they have quietly become increasingly popular among commercial drivers.
Since LED bulbs are not included in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard FMVSS No.108 (that is why they can’t be DOT-marked), NHTSA delegates compliance to states.
Vehicle modifications (headlighting included) are legal as long as they comply with state laws. That is why the LED bulb “migration” can go on.
